Overview

Master of Arts (MA) in History program is part of the Tri-University Graduate Program in History, a collaboration among Laurier, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Guelph. The integration of history departments positions this program as one of the largest graduate history programs in Canada, while still offering the intimate class sizes and supportive professor-student relationships characteristic of History at Laurier. Full-time master's students in history are eligible for funding, which includes internal and external scholarships, as well as Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). The institution is deeply committed to teaching excellence and scholarly development. Students will engage in meaningful discussions with faculty and peers in seminars specifically designed for MA students. Classes will not exceed 15 students, ensuring personalized attention from active researchers. The coursework option consists of eight seminar courses, along with a requirement to write a research paper in at least three of the eight courses.

About the Institution

For more than a century, Laurier has been known for academic excellence. But we’ve also been dedicated to the philosophy that our students’ success is measured through more than grades – it’s based on the quality of the lives they lead, and those they inspire. Laurier’s two campuses are in Waterloo and Brantford, but we also have a Faculty of Social Work in nearby Kitchener and a weekend MBA program in Toronto. In all, we have 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Kitchener-Waterloo, with a population of about 350,000, is small enough to be safe and easy to navigate but large enough to o...
