Richmond, British Columbia, Canada
Richmond School District provides world class education options for students ages 5 to 18 with programs designed to support their personal and educational goals. Each year, hundreds of international students are welcomed to Richmond School District's short- and long-term study programs.
Students come to develop English language proficiency, immerse in Canadian culture, and learn in a welcoming community on Canada’s beautiful west coast.
Richmond has welcomed international students since 1998.
Accommodation, whether arranged privately or through the Richmond International Education (RIE) homestay program, is a crucial part of the international education experience. A homestay family is the main student support outside school and is responsible for assisting the student in all aspects of their life in Canada. RIE offers an excellent, in house homestay program coordinated by RIE staff; however, students may live with families outside of the RIE homestay program provided they meet RIE homestay standards. Students can expect a range of accommodation options in the city of Richmond, from single family homes to townhouses and new condos.
Located on the southwestern coast of British Columbia, Canada, the City of Richmond is a vibrant and diverse community that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and economic opportunities. With urban population of approximately 220,000 residents, Richmond is an exceptional locale for students to live and learn.
RSD provides over 100 academic and elective course options as well as International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The Richmond School District also boasts excellent graduation and university acceptance rates.
Students are provided an in-house homestay program and custodianship, academic advisors and counsellors at school, as well as English Language Learning (ELL) support.
Students have access to both nature and urban culture, as well as multiple community centres, outdoor activities, restaurants and shopping.
Over 90% of Canadians attend public schools because of the strong education standard found across the country, which consistently places Canada and British Columbia in the top PISA rankings around the world.

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Graduating from a designated learning institution does not automatically make a student eligible for a PGWP; not every program at a DLI qualifies, and eligibility can depend on the program, language results, field of study and other requirements. Eligibility is checked for each program — see the program page.
