About Tennessee Tech University

Tennessee Tech produces practical, ready-to-work graduates from a broad range of academic disciplines prepared to compete in a technologically driven world. Students have the freedom to discover and pursue their passions, knowing there is a supportive community behind them. Developing their passions into hundreds of student clubs and organizations, Tech students make an impact on campus, in the community and around the world.

Professors and students achieve national and regional recognition for teaching and research and are responsible for Tech reputation of excellence. Tech faculty earn recognition and grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, Oak Ridge National Laboratories and national professional societies, allowing students to study and engage in research with respected scholars in their fields of study. Tech students and faculty compete for and receive numerous Fulbright awards, and students are increasingly being chosen for national fellowships.

Tennessee Tech is committed to producing high academic achievement, fostering collaboration, and inspiring creativity and realized potential for the entire campus community. Tech students have access to multiple experiential learning opportunities in all undergraduate programs. A Tech-unique general education curriculum provides the foundation for technologically adept, analytically capable, career-ready graduates. Tech’s academic programs allow students to develop innovative, stackable credentials.

With an enrollment of more than 10,000 students, Tech offers degrees from eight academic schools and colleges: Agriculture and Human Ecology, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical. Eligibility is checked for each program — see the program page.
