About Woodbury University

Founded in 1884, Woodbury College (as it was first known) quickly built a reputation for degrees leading to the professions. From the start, Woodbury believed in gender equity, as its first class was made up nearly equally of males and females. This commitment to diversity was very unusual at the time and remains one of Woodbury's core principles.

Woodbury University offers a unique experience that is personal, communal and practice-based. Every major requires an internship, giving students work experience and a competitive advantage after graduation. The University is also located in one of the most exciting and vibrant communities in the world–in the heart of Southern California’s creative economy.

Woodbury University has developed a truly vibrant environment that promotes cultural diversity and cross-cultural communication throughout the university. International students will experience opportunities to connect with the campus community and experience the culture of the United States and Southern California. Specialized resources are available for students including individual attention, advising, academic support and student life support.

Internships - Gain work experience during college: Internships are a graduation requirement for all majors. Woodbury’s Los Angeles/Burbank location provides a wealth of internship opportunities that allow students to gain practical work experience in their field of interest.

Learn in an intimate and engaging setting: Woodbury University's student-to-faculty ratio is 9:1 and the average class size is just 15, enabling students to engage and learn in ways that are generally not possible at larger institutions.

Explore cutting-edge research and theories: Students investigate ideas faculty bring directly to the classroom through design research, entrepreneurial activity, and provocative social practice. Students can also create their own learning opportunities through student-centered research and student-inspired courses.

Learn in a beautiful and safe environment: Woodbury University is one of the region’s safest campuses. In 2017, Niche.com ranked Woodbury the third safest campus in California

Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical. Eligibility is checked for each program — see the program page.
