About University of Nevada (UNLV)

Since its first classes were held on campus in 1957, the University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV) has transformed itself from a small branch college into a thriving urban research institution. Along the way, the urban university has become an indispensable resource in one of the country's fastest-growing and most enterprising cities. There is no “average” Rebel. One third of students are the first in their families to go to college. Tagalog is one of the most-spoken second languages among students. Military Times lists UNLV as one of its Best for Vets. All that ripples throughout the campus. It creates a climate where students can both find their people and expand their worldview.

Why choose University of Nevada (UNLV)

Location

Dripping in the golden desert sun and spread across 350 acres in the heart of Las Vegas, UNLV provides nowhere-else opportunities in this 24-hour metropolis. And while Las Vegas might be the center of it all, it doesn’t take long to slip the bonds of this little oasis and get out into the desert, as the campus is just minutes from natural getaways and less than a day’s drive from the entire American Southwest.

The Vegas Value

An education shouldn’t be a ball-and-chain weighing down on students' financial health when they're just starting a career. At UNLV, it won’t be. UNLV students graduate with less debt than students from 47 other states, and 76 percent of students receive some form of financial aid and scholarships. Factor in that our graduates land jobs locally, nationally, and internationally, along with the lifetime earning power a degree will bring, and the value that UNLV brings is clear.

Innovative Academics

With 80 majors and 68 minors, UNLV does more than offer options — it provides opportunities. If the professional ambitions of students require them to obtain multiple degrees, UNLV also has more than 175 graduate degree and certificate programs and their own law, medicine, and dental medicine schools. UNLV is proud that their academics draw upon the influences of our community, and offer an education like nowhere else.

Post-study work information

Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical. Eligibility is checked for each program — see the program page.
